Sports Ground and Shalbourne Pavilion

Shalbourne's beautiful Sports Ground is at the centre of sporting and community life. Home to successful cricket and football teams, tennis, petanque and croquet clubs, it also hosts several large events such as the Classic Car Show and May Day Fair.

In 2015/16, the Shalbourne Club, which runs the Sports Ground, raised more than £240,000 to build a new Pavilion, which opened in April 2017. With fully equipped catering facilities and changing rooms, the Pavilion is further enhanced by a spacious main hall, with glass doors opening directly onto the Sports Ground and its magnificent views.

Village Hall

The Village Hall is at the centre of the village but also, most importantly, at the heart of the community. It was built as a bible school in 1843 and continued to serve that purpose until the late 19th century after which time its use gradually evolved into what it is today. It provides a meeting space for Village organisations, a home for regular exercise classes and a venue for drama productions. It is an attractive, listed, stone building and is ideally situated lying adjacent to the shop, the green and the pub.

The Hall is fully licensed for 60 people and often hosts dinners and lunches with up to 50 seated guests. It has a well equipped kitchen, with a commercial dishwasher and central heating. It has baby changing facilities and an accessible toilet. The Hall is run by a small committee of volunteers who recognise that it is essential the facilities are available, attractive and vibrant for years to come and in 2016 embarked upon ambitious plans for improvement and refurbishment. The roof has been overhauled and insulated, the 1970s ceiling has been removed and the garish strip lighting has been replaced with pendants and up-lighters and new windows have been installed  Thus the ambience of the Hall has been much improved and the beauty of the 1843 building has been revealed.

To book the Hall and see the schedule of events go to the Village Hall website  or call Nigel Walter on 01672 870 740 or contact Nigel Baldock.
